I started out in 1995 as a paratransit driver for the city of Albuquerque. I worked my way up to a scheduler and a supervisor and a manager. Then I left transit and ran a small transportation system for another department for the city of Albuquerque. After that, I went back to the department of transit and became the director. So I was the only person that ever went from a driver all the way to running the department. So to me, that was really cool. Working in transit means giving back, helping people out. I think in every department that I've been in with the city, everyone has the same goal. And that's a way for me to help someone. If I can get them from point A to point B, if I can get them from home to dialysis or home to get their groceries, I love that.
