Community engagement led me to urban planning and transit. I focused my career around how transit can meet equity, sustainability, and livability goals. By living car-free, I relate to the work I do.

Metro Transit, Minnesota
Shortly after I moved to Minneapolis-St. Paul, I started getting involved in my community and became part of a neighbourhood organization, where I learned more about urban planning as I interacted with city planners and transportation planners. I realized that urban planning is a wonderful discipline that mixes a lot of my interests in cities, politics, sustainability, and all those good things. As I explored that more, I learned more about how transit can meet so many of our goals, whether it's equity goals, sustainability goals, or livability goals, and I decided to focus on that track in my career. Being able to connect my personal lifestyle with my professional work is very rewarding; living as a car-free transit rider myself, I can relate to the work that I do because I am both the end user and the transit professional.
