There’s always new people to serve, needs to be met, and a story to be told. That's one of the things that highlights my passion for transit, because there really is always more work to be done.

Luther Wynder
Chief Executive Officer
Minnesota Valley Transit Authority
In the very beginning, I fell in love with helping individuals. What I saw when I first started doing paratransit, is how transit really was providing access and providing a choice of people being homebound or being able to go to work, go to school, or just carry on a normal life. And I got to understand it was a public service bug benefit. I bit the bug, and now, 15-20 years later, I'm still in transit. There’s always new people to serve. There's always needs to be met, and there's always a story to be told. And I think that's one of the things that really highlights and brings my passion related to transit, because there really is always more work to be done. And it's always good to work with different vendors and different companies that help us do a better job at connecting with our customers. The most rewarding part about my job is taking a customer that starts with challenges and turning them into an advocate. Because that’s always what I want to do. And if you give them enough time, we can overcome the limitations together. The most satisfaction I get is having conversations with people who aren’t necessarily a fan of our service, and they want to follow up a few weeks, a few years, a few months later and tell me that it’s coming along. And I ask them, ‘did we do a little bit better? Did you see some progress? Did your complaint matter? And does your voice feel heard?’ Those are conversations that mean the most to me. And that's the most fun part of my job.
